| Article from theatermania.com Gettelfinger Will Take Leave From Scoundrels to Appear in Grey Gardens With Ebersole, Wilson, Cavenaugh, McMartin"Sara Gettelfinger will take a leave of absence from her role of Jolene Oakes in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels from January 17 through March 26 to co-star as "Young Edie" with Christine Ebersole and Mary Louise Wilson in the new musical Grey Gardens, which will run February 10-March 26 at Playwrights Horizons. During Gettelfinger's absence, the role of Jolene will be played by Mylinda Hull, who was most recently seen as Nickie in Sweet Charity. Hull's other Broadway credits include 42nd Street and Little Shop of Horrors. She will join the Scoundrels cast on the same day that Jonathan Pryce succeeds current star John Lithgow." | http://www.playbill.com/news/article/122272.htmlIf you didn't see it, let me tell you that Christine Ebersole played Big Edie (the mother) in Act One and Little Edie (the daughter) in Act Two. I asked why Sara Gettelfinger played Act One Little Edie Off-Broadway (and on the recording) but not on Broadway. Doug said that because there were 30 years between acts, they needed a Little Edie in Act One who'd look like a young version of Christine Ebersole in Act Two. Sara is taller than Christine and has a naturally dark look, and they felt that it was confusing for the audience for the two Edies to look so different. | |
