An Evening of Summer Love Songs

We are so excited to be presenting this evening concert with some of the most beautiful love songs and duets. It will feature Sarah Joy Miller, Soprano; Catherine Freeman, Mezzo Soprano; Stephen Mark Brown, Tenor; Daniel Klein, Baritone, and Pamela Levy, Piano. The evening will include selections from Carmen, Tosca, Tales of Hoffman, Babes in Arms, South Pacific, Rigoletto and many more.

The Village of Great Neck Plaza and Mayor Jean Celender have made it possible for us to bring this amazing music to the North Shore. We hope it will be the first of many and that you will all come and hear some amazing musicians and beautiful music.

Sarah Joy Miller, Soprano
American soprano Sarah Joy Miller, called “nothing less than breathtaking” by StarPulse.com, and “one to listen for” by the Tolucan Times, counts among her recent performances the role of Mimi in Baz Luhrmann’s Broadway La Boheme. The Los Angeles native has appeared as Fiordiligi, Musetta, Faust’s Marguerite, and in the title roles of Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor and Betly, with companies including The Ahmanson Theater of Los Angeles, The Broadway Theater of New York, California State University Northridge Theater, and the Haugh Performing Arts Center of California. Her most recent engagements include appearances as Violetta in La Traviata with Long Island Opera, Micaela in Carmen with New York Lyric Opera, Musetta at New York’s Symphony Space and a Concert Gala with New York Metropolitan Opera tenor, Marcello Giordani. She is currently working on her debut album of soprano arias with Maestro Steven Mercurio and the Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra in Pecs, Hungary. Ms. Miller will sing the role of Gilda in Rigoletto with Michigan Opera Theater in May of 2011.

In 2010, Sarah Joy received award recognition from The Gerda Lissner Foundation, The Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation and The Jensen Foundation. A finalist in the New York Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions (Los Angeles), Ms. Miller was also a winner in the Los Angeles Artist of the Future competition, and earned prizes in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition and the Elizabeth Parham Vocal Scholarship. Her “gorgeous coloratura” led the Desert Sun to praise her performance at the Palm Springs competition as “lyrical refinement”.

In concert repertoire, Ms. Miller has been heard with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Radio Classica (Italy), the Palm Springs Opera Guild, Gilda’s Club New York and the Bel Air Presbyterian Church of California, in such works as Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Poulenc’s Gloria, Handel’s Messiah, Carconi’s Gloria, and Orff’s Carmina Burana (under the baton of renowned conductor Jorge Mester). With Three Graces, Sarah Joy toured the US, Mexico and Canada with the Britian’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts. She was heard with Il Divo’s David Miller and The Chicagoland Pops Orchestra, and appeared as a soloist with Andrea Bocelli and David Foster at the Vivere release event.

Sarah Joy is signed to Decca Records, and can be seen with Three Graces. Her performance on the debut album, which features production and songwriting contributions from some of the finest producers in the business — Walter Afanasieff (Mariah Carey, Celine Dion), Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin), Guy Roche (Christina Aguilera, Michael Bolton) and Mark Portmann (Luis Miguel, Barbra Streisand) — was hailed as “nothing less than breathtaking” by StarPulse.com. Ms. Miller is a student of Bill Schuman.
